The University focuses on research areas which have a direct application as it is likely to make greater contributions to the community. A very unique initiative offered by PolyU is the Teaching Company Scheme, which is strongly supported by the SAR Government's Innovation and Technology Commission.
The Scheme encourages companies to take on PolyU graduate research students for specific R&D projects directly related to the needs of client companies with a finite duration. Students will work under the joint supervision of a PolyU staff member and a representative of the company.
All parties concerned will benefit from the Scheme. For participating companies, their gain is the research deliverables while students acquire practical research experience in a genuine business environment. The university faculties also benefit from the close links established with industry. Significant collaboration with the community has been achieved by the successful operation of the Scheme.
